Academic Mentorship Opportunity

About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled SEM Instructor to teach and guide first- and second-year students at Norfolk State University.

  • Teach multiple sections of Spartan Seminars 101, 102, and/or 201 to foster academic growth and community engagement.
  • Develop and deliver instruction that engages students in academic programs and learning community activities, promoting a seamless transition to university life.
  • Evaluate student progress in SEM courses and provide guidance for academic, social, and personal development.
  • Collaborate with academic advisors to ensure a smooth transition to the university and support students in establishing academic and career goals.
  • Work closely with learning community liaison and faculty coordinators to integrate learning community experiences and promote department events and activities for first and second-year students.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A master's or terminal degree in science and technology, liberal arts, business, education, or social work.
  • In-depth knowledge of colleges/universities' missions, particularly Norfolk State University.
  • Considerable understanding of career support services and organization.
  • Experience with first and second-year transitions and experiences is highly valued.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Proven ability to work productively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers.

Compensation: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
