Lead Our Internal Medicine Residency Program

Adventist Health Bakersfield is seeking a seasoned professional to oversee our Internal Medicine Residency program as Program Director. Major Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the residency program's continued accreditation by adhering to ACGME Institutional, Common, and Specialty-Specific Program Requirements, as well as Adventist Health GME policies and procedures.
  2. Develop and continuously improve a comprehensive Internal Medicine curriculum that meets the requirements of the State of California, Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, ACGME, American Board of Internal Medicine, and the sponsoring institution.
  3. Mentor teaching faculty, monitor their academic appointments, assignments, professionalism, engagement, and overall effectiveness in educational activities.
  4. Recruit, retain, and promote a high-caliber resident body that reflects the community they serve, exhibits a commitment to excellence in whole-person patient care, demonstrates competency in scholarly activity, and displays high ethics and professionalism.
  5. Cultivate a psychologically safe working and learning environment for residents, allowing them to confidentially raise concerns and provide feedback without fear of intimidation or retaliation.
  6. Manage the residency budget, ensuring adequate ACGME-required resources for resident education and scholarly activity, and understand Graduate Medical Education funding sources and mechanisms.
  7. Establish and maintain an education liaison with community-based and academic teaching institutions, coordinating faculty development, medical student curriculum, and resident training and education as needed.
  8. Perform duties as necessary to the position and operation of Adventist Health Bakersfield and the Bakersfield Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Qualifications:

  • Valid and unrestricted medical license from the State of California
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine
  • Certification/maintenance with the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine Physicians
  • 3-5 years of Internal Medicine education and/or administrative experience, preferably as a Director, Associate Director, Site Director, or Core Faculty member of an Internal Medicine Residency Training Program
