Position OverviewThe role is responsible for delivering high-quality medical nutrition therapy to patients and clients. Key responsibilities include assessing nutritional requirements, providing medical nutrition therapy, and offering nutrition education. The incumbent will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team, serving as a resource for the medical staff and others. Opportunities to engage in community service through nutrition education initiatives may also be available. Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition or a related field.
Licenses/Certifications:
Must be registered with the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration and hold a license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
CPR Certification (Heart Saver only) from either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association, or obtained within six months of hire.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Completion of a recognized professional experience in preparation for the registered dietitian examination administered by the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration. The ability to engage positively with diverse individuals is essential. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
- Establish goals for patient nutrition care, conduct assessments, and develop personalized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluations of nutritional status.
- Provide medical nutrition therapy tailored to patients and clients based on their age, preferences, tolerances, and cultural or religious considerations.
- Document nutrition care plans in the medical record, including assessments, monitoring parameters, goals, and recommendations.
- Deliver nutrition education to patients and/or families that is appropriate for their age, religious beliefs, and cultural background.
- Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary constraints, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
- Promote individual professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory and continuing education, skills competency, and supporting department-based goals that contribute to the organization's success; serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource for less experienced staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
