About the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)

The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) was established in 2012 by the UN Secretary-General to mobilize universities and knowledge institutions to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2017, the UN Secretary-General reaffirmed the mandate of the SDSN. The SDSN focuses on three priority areas: (i) building a global network of knowledge institutions, (ii) supporting the implementation of the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement, and (iii) building a global online SDG Academy for sustainable development.

About the Science Panel for the Congo Basin

The Science Panel for the Congo Basin (SPCB) is an independent scientific panel dedicated to synthesizing existing knowledge of the status of and threats to the Congo Basin and its ecosystems. The report will also draft solutions to preserve the ecosystem health of the Congo Basin. As the world's second-largest tropical forest, the Congo Basin provides key services at local, regional, and global scales that are critical for limiting the impacts of climate change.

Position Summary

This position will support the Secretariat of the Science Panel for the Congo Basin based in the SDSN New York Office. The incumbent will provide a wide range of duties, including supporting the payment of all partners, production of the assessment report, and associated activities, as well as supporting events and meetings.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Work with an international team and liaise with consultants, service providers, and partners.
  • Develop and/or follow workflow procedures and timely completion of many assignments on tight timelines.
  • Support financial systems management, including initiating vendor relationships, payments, contracts, and processing invoices.
  • Support the planning of events (meetings, webinars, workshops, etc.) in-person and virtual, including updating agendas, preparing invitations, taking notes, and drafting summaries.
  • Support the elaboration of donor reports.
  • When applicable, support the production of the assessment report through formatting citations, fact-checking, requesting permission for figures, copyediting, and organizing draft documents.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Strategic Coordinator of the SPCB.
Qualifications, Experience, and Expertise
  • A Bachelor's Degree (completed or currently enrolled) related to project management, administration, organization, and information studies is strongly recommended. Alternatively, applicants with an environment or economics-related degree and strong interest in project administration may be considered.
  • A Master's Degree (completed or currently enrolled) is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Office (Sheets, Docs, Forms, etc.).
  • Accuracy, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and international team environment.
  • Proficient in English. Proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure on competing responsibilities with resilience, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • Passion for the mission of the SDSN.
  • Experience with the following software is an asset: Mailchimp, Wordpress, Intacct, Vena, Canva, Candid, Dropbox, HR Partner, GrantHub, Expensify, Egencia, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat.
