Role Summary

The Compensation and Classification Manager is responsible for the oversight and administration of the County's classification and compensation framework, a vital strategic initiative for the Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator. Acting as a trusted advisor to the Chief Human Resources Officer, this role will provide expert guidance on the County's compensation strategy, ensuring competitive pay across all positions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and maintenance of job classifications for approximately 30 County departments.
  • Creating and updating comprehensive job descriptions.
  • Managing the County's pay structures, including open-range and grade-step plans.
  • Conducting salary surveys and market analyses to inform compensation strategies.
  • Analyzing data and drafting reports to support salary recommendations and adjustments.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Providing training and presentations on the classification and compensation program.

The Classification and Compensation Manager will collaborate with various internal stakeholders to achieve program objectives, including Workforce Planning, Labor Relations, and Employee Benefits.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a master's degree and a minimum of four years of relevant Human Resources experience, including three years in a supervisory capacity. Experience with collective bargaining is advantageous. Preferred certifications include Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or other HR credentials such as SPHR or SHRM-SCP.

A thorough understanding of classification and compensation management principles is essential, along with strong project management, data analysis, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to navigate a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities effectively.

This position is classified as FLSA Exempt and may require extended hours. Background checks will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
