Position Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Motion Planning Engineer to join our development team, responding to the increasing demands in the creation of self-propelled rail vehicles. This role will concentrate on designing an innovative motion planning system tailored for these vehicles.

The ideal candidate will serve as a mentor and coach within the development team, responsible for crafting software that generates safe, efficient, and reliable trajectories for rail vehicles. A background in model predictive control and optimal control is highly desirable.

This position requires multidisciplinary skills, including architecture and systems development, integration, and testing. You will collaborate in a dynamic team environment, working on projects that range from small to medium size, necessitating excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

As the nature of our research work is evolving, project objectives and requirements may change throughout your tenure. A minimal amount of domestic travel may be necessary to support integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design global and local motion planners for safety-critical applications.
  • Create planners that adapt global trajectories to local constraints.
  • Optimize local trajectories and time parameterization.
  • Develop validation methodologies to test the provided solutions.
  • Conduct studies and make recommendations regarding system and component reliability and availability.
  • Support customer networks, including deployment, handover, and ongoing support throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Coordinate hardware acquisition from suppliers, addressing any unique design requirements.
  • Research technological advancements for potential applications to business needs.
  • Make informed recommendations for technology investments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science.
  • 1-2+ years of experience leading or managing a team of engineers.
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in trajectory optimization algorithms.
  • Experience in solving global solution trajectories.
  • Familiarity with Model Predictive Control and Sensor-based Optimal Control.
  • Knowledge of Constrained Optimization.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship is not available).
  • Detail-oriented and motivated.
  • Willingness to explore technical areas beyond your expertise and develop innovative approaches.
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with system architectures.
  • 2+ years of experience with programming languages such as C, C++, C#, and/or Python.
  • Experience with Unmanned Rail Systems or Unmanned Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with other engineering disciplines on project teams.

Typical Education and Experience:

Education and experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g., Bachelor's Degree) and usually 3 or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

Relocation: This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
