Job Summary

Mid-State Machine is seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our team. As an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, and calibrating electronic equipment and gauges that control, regulate, and/or monitor mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, isometric drawings, engineering instructions, and manufacture instructions to ensure accurate installation and maintenance of systems.
  • Install, repair, maintain, and calibrate electronic equipment, controls, and measuring devices to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Test and analyze electronic and measuring equipment for accuracy and functionality to identify and resolve issues.
  • Utilize knowledge of motor starters, VFDs, PLCs, and other electrical systems to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment or systems to ensure optimal performance and extend lifespan.
  • Complete reports on tests, repairs, and installations for all work requested to complete.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E and other relevant safety standards.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • 7+ years' experience in instrumentation, analyzer, or electrical field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software.
  • Required to have all journeymen tools and experience with associated power tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with DCS operations for troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret drawings, blueprints, and P & IDs, isometric drawings, and other required documentation.
  • Ability to work on low- and high-pressure tubing/piping systems.
  • Ability to work with precision instruments and tools.
  • Ability to follow all company and project work policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of site practices relative to contractor coordination and site materials procurement process.
  • Capable of programming and writing logic, wiring panels working from mechanical RWD. Siemens, Allen Bradley PLCs is a plus.
  • Ability to check performance using testing and measuring instruments and make necessary adjustments.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and how to apply it to connecting, wiring, and calibrating electronic devices.
  • Knowledge of working with gauges and other measurement devices.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms. Will work at heights up to 300' utilizing proper fall protection.
  • Ability to work outside in the elements including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, fall arrest harness, face shield, earplugs, and goggles.
Work Environment
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary (Monday to Sunday with some overnight work) and overtime is frequently required.
  • This position is safety sensitive in nature, which means employees perform duties so fraught with risks of injury to self or others, or environmental injury, that even a momentary lapse of concentration or attention can have disastrous consequences.
  • The working environment is often in harsh elements (hot/humid and/or cold temperatures, rain, etc.) Industrial environments often have exposure to hazardous chemicals, moving heavy equipment, and other safety-sensitive hazards/risks. Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.

Physical Requirements

Talk/Hear: Must be able to communicate to effectively discuss technical details, receive instructions, and coordinate with other team members during complex tasks.

Stand/Sit: Alternates between standing and sitting to perform tasks such as wiring, troubleshooting, and operating equipment at various workstations.

Walk: Frequently required to walk to move between work sites, access different parts of a facility, and transport tools and equipment.

Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Frequently use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate wiring, tools, and instruments for installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.

Climb: Occasionally climb ladders or stairs to access and perform maintenance or repairs on equipment and systems located at elevated positions.

Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch to access and work on electrical systems and instrumentation in confined or low spaces.

See: Must have good vision to inspect electrical components, read schematics, and ensure accurate installation and maintenance of systems.

Carry, weight, Lift: Frequently needs to carry or lift equipment and tools to install, repair, or maintain electrical and instrumentation systems.

Exposure to work: Works in various environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, chemicals, and outdoor elements during fieldwork.
