As a Textile Arts Educator at SCAD, you will guide students through the intricate interplay of art, design, science, and technology within the realm of fibers. This role encompasses a broad spectrum of textile applications, including but not limited to fashion, interior design, automotive textiles, and innovative uses in robotics. The fibers department at SCAD stands as the largest of its kind in the United States, offering a rich curriculum supported by expansive facilities equipped with state-of-the-art tools and resources, creating an inspiring environment for learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare course materials, ensuring a comprehensive syllabus that meets academic standards.
  • Foster an engaging and interactive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and creativity.
  • Conduct regular office hours and provide constructive feedback through midterm evaluations.
  • Offer additional support through extra help sessions, extended learning opportunities, and field trips.
  • Participate in course and program assessments to enhance educational effectiveness.

In this position, you will also be expected to uphold professional standards, which include:

  • Demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
  • Completing grading and maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Adhering to institutional academic policies and contributing to assessment initiatives.

Additionally, you will be required to attend various events, both in-person and virtual, which may include faculty meetings, admission events, and exhibitions, among others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree or its equivalent in the relevant field.
  • Demonstrated academic and professional credentials suitable for teaching.
  • Experience or knowledge in related professional areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level.

Travel Requirements: Minimal travel expected, less than 10%.

Work Hours: The university operates on a flexible schedule, with standard hours from Monday to Friday, but may require availability during weekends and evenings based on departmental needs.
