Key Responsibilities:
The Cardiac Surgical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for delivering direct patient care within the surgical department and may assist in other areas as needed. This role requires adherence to federal and state regulations and active participation in routine equipment checks within the surgical environment.
Collaboration with the Director, Manager, and team members is essential for resource utilization and staff cross-training. The specialist will also assist in projects aimed at achieving the hospital's mission and embodying its core values in daily operations.
As part of the perioperative nursing practice, the role includes first assisting duties that are based on a solid foundation of scientific knowledge. Responsibilities may encompass:
- Handling and cutting tissue
- Providing surgical exposure
- Utilizing medical instruments and devices
- Suturing
- Ensuring hemostasis
- Experience in Saphenous Vein Harvesting is required
Qualifications:
Education:
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and have completed an RNFA program that aligns with the AORN Recommended Education Standards for RN First Assisting Programs.
Licensure/Certification:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state, Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR), and Certification as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) or in the process of obtaining certification within six months of employment. Current BLS certification is also required.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of recent experience in perioperative nursing is essential, with demonstrated competency in scrubbing, circulating, or first assisting roles within the intraoperative nursing dimension.
