Job Title: Director of Engineering for Renewable Energy Projects

RWE Clean Energy, LLC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering for Renewable Energy Projects to lead our engineering team in the development and construction of solar and battery storage projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the engineering activities for PV and battery storage projects, including project development, detailed design, and commissioning support.
  • Manage a team of engineers and coordinate with external resources to complete engineering initiatives and project development.
  • Ensure all design deliverables meet internal engineering standards and local utility design requirements.
  • Develop and maintain external engineering specifications and scopes of work.
  • Review and confirm the accuracy of work performed by engineering staff or external resources.
  • Mentor engineering staff members and enable their growth.
  • Participate in industry trade groups and policy working groups addressing distribution system policies and tariffs.
  • Review and approve detailed engineering design work and provide feedback to refine engineering processes and procedures.
  • Spearhead new product development initiatives and identify areas of value engineering.
  • Establish and maintain budgets for 3rd party engineering firms.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other departments, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Maintain technical contract exhibits for construction of projects through EPCs or subcontractors.
  • Support development and construction of projects, including project cost estimating and on-site visits.
  • Establish and uphold standard processes and procedures by the engineering team.
  • Review Power Purchase Agreements and EPC agreements to ensure design compliance.
  • Oversee testing and quality assurance checks by engineering staff to verify the quality of completed projects.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • PE registration as a Professional Engineer required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in renewable energy projects, including PV and energy storage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in the renewable energy space and leading teams of multi-discipline engineers.
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the engineering team on track.
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
  • Competent with computer software, including Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, and SKM/ETap.
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various problems.
  • Ability to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership skills necessary to manage and work within a cross-functional team.
  • Specifications and SOW and contract writing.
  • Ability to represent the company well.
  • Detail-oriented engineer with an eye for the big picture.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact and work effectively across internal or external organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet tight deadlines in both group or independent work.
  • Able to plan and manage the development and production of permit and contract documents for development and construction of both PV and energy storage projects.
  • Ability to push/pull/lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely in extreme field environments (hot sun, cold, etc.) where necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as required to support the projects' development and construction.
  • Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds.
