Role Summary
The Surgical RN is responsible for delivering personalized and specialized nursing care to patients in accordance with physician directives, established nursing practices, and the policies of our center. This role involves active participation in patient and family education, as well as collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
The essential duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Preparing patients both physically and emotionally for surgical procedures.
2. Conducting thorough patient history assessments.
3. Monitoring patient conditions and promptly reporting any concerning signs or symptoms.
4. Providing clear explanations of procedures and addressing patient inquiries.
5. Assisting with patient discharge, including providing detailed discharge instructions.
6. Supporting colleagues in their responsibilities.
7. Overseeing patient recovery and ensuring appropriate care is provided.
8. Delivering age-appropriate care tailored to the needs of each patient.
9. Promoting a positive image and advocating for patient welfare.
10. Anticipating physician needs during procedures.
11. Administering intravenous medications and adhering to emergency protocols.
12. Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
13. Upholding patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
14. Managing supplies and medications under the guidance of the Clinical Director.
15. Collecting and processing specimens accurately.
16. Assisting in the preparation and execution of surgical procedures.
17. Participating in quality assurance initiatives and maintaining records as required.
18. Fostering effective interpersonal relationships within the team.
19. Engaging in ongoing professional development through education and networking.
20. Ensuring patient safety through proper equipment usage and safety protocols.
21. Reporting equipment malfunctions to the Clinical Director.
22. Coordinating procedure scheduling effectively.
23. Serving as a clinical resource and role model for peers.
24. Assisting the billing department with accurate equipment charges.
25. Supervising the clinical activities of non-licensed personnel as needed.
26. Participating in orientation and training programs.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree from an accredited nursing program.
- A valid state license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
- A minimum of two years of recent nursing experience, preferably in GI or critical care.
- Strong technical and organizational skills relevant to nursing practices.
- Physical ability to assist patients and perform job-related functions.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of nursing processes, pharmacology, and physiological systems.
- Proficiency in intravenous procedures.
- Initiative, reliability, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
