POSITION: Pet Care Specialist (Reports to: Daycare/Lodging Operations Manager)

OBJECTIVE

  • The aim of this Job Overview is to outline the responsibilities, tasks, accountability, and performance metrics of the Pet Care Specialist at Orrville Pet Spa and Resort, LLC.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • The primary role of the Pet Care Specialist is to ensure the well-being of the pets in our care at Orrville Pet Spa and Resort, while adhering to daily cleaning protocols as per the Standard Operating Procedures of the facility. This position necessitates effective communication of any concerns or updates to fellow staff members and management.
  • The Pet Care Specialist is accountable to the Guest Services Team Lead and Daycare/Lodging Operations Manager(s).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prioritize the safety and health of all animal guests.
  • Identify and report any signs of distress or potential medical issues.
  • Exhibit compassion and skill in handling pets that may be anxious, aggressive, or restless, following established self-control guidelines.
  • Maintain composure and emotional control, avoiding aggressive behavior even in challenging situations.
  • Adhere to all operational principles and behaviors outlined by the organization.
  • Execute daily tasks as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Complete weekly and monthly cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Understand and apply all guidelines set forth by the Dog Guru Community.
  • Administer medications as required, including insulin shots and various oral and topical treatments.
  • Participate in regular disinfection of the facility according to established schedules.
  • Effectively communicate any updates or concerns through appropriate channels.
  • Document daily activities and actions, including but not limited to: Kennel Checklist, Medications, Chore Lists, Activity Sheets, and Daycare Checklists.
  • Monitor pets closely to ensure their safety, comfort, and control at all times.
  • Complete additional tasks as directed by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To perform this role effectively, an individual must meet the outlined requirements satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience - Required; some experience in animal care is preferred.
  • Age - Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities - Proficient in animal handling, completion of Dog Guru Education, understanding dog breed characteristics, puppy development stages, basic canine body language, and effective human-dog interactions. Ability to recognize stress signals and aggressive behaviors, and to intervene appropriately.
  • Play Management Skills - Demonstrate effective body language and movement to lead playgroups, manage interactions, and maintain a safe environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess full range of motion, including the use of hands, fingers, bending, reaching, and crouching.
  • Must have full sensory capabilities, including sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste.
  • Must be able to lift, control, and handle dogs weighing between 5 and 180 pounds regularly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position requires working both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions, throughout the shift. The indoor environment is climate-controlled and smoke-free.
  • The noise level in the workplace is typically moderate but may increase in certain areas.
