The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services is looking for a Psychiatric Support Specialist to join our dedicated team.

Position Overview:

This role involves providing essential support and care to individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other related conditions. As a key member of an integrated team, you will work within a person-centered educational framework to deliver assistance, training, and supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in direct support and training for individuals, fostering their independence and personal growth.
  • Administer medications as required and maintain accurate records using Electronic Health Records.
  • Implement individualized training programs and behavior support plans.
  • Monitor and facilitate recreational and social activities, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports related to individual care and services.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Experience in working with individuals facing intellectual disabilities or mental health challenges is preferred. A valid driver's license is also required.

Additional Requirements:

Successful completion of a comprehensive training program, including CPR and First Aid, is essential. Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Work Schedule:

This position may require flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
