Instrumentation Calibration Technician

Job Summary:
Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research seeks a skilled Instrumentation Calibration Technician to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance and engineering department, you will be responsible for the repair, fabrication, modification, maintenance, installation, and testing of a wide range of electronic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical instruments used in research and industry.
Key Responsibilities:
• Checks schematic diagrams and equipment manuals to isolate causes of instrument malfunctions
• Checks electronic alignment of instruments according to calibrating standards using electronic testing equipment
• Disassembles and replaces components such as vacuum tubes, thermocouples, transistors, etc.
• Redesigns existing circuits to meet special requirements
• Modifies equipment for miniaturization and efficiency of operation
• Periodically inspects instruments and support systems
• Conducts standard tests on newly installed support systems
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of five years of craft-related experience, including one year of vocational or manufacturers' instruction in electronic industrial instrumentation and pneumatic controls
• Ability to read prints, diagrams, schematics, programs, and operating instructions
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40-50 lbs., climb stairs and ladders, and work in confined areas
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in a wide range of installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial electrical equipment and systems
• Knowledge of electrical components of scientific/laboratory equipment
• Knowledge of National Electrical Codes, National Electrical Safety Codes, and basic principles and theories of electricity
• Experience with voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeters, and other multi-amp testing equipment
