Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our physicians and surgeons.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of clinical tasks, including patient history recording, visual field testing, and intraocular pressure measurement.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures, including instilling eye drops and measuring visual acuity.
  • Compile and enter data for clinical studies and participate in other research projects.
  • Teach patients how to insert and remove contact lenses correctly and provide proper handling techniques.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair of clinical equipment.
  • Responsible for exam room supply maintenance, medication expiration dates, and instrument sterilization.
  • Ensure compliance with JCAHO regulations and maintain a clean and safe environment.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, with certification from JCAHPO within 18 months of start date.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Prior experience in a clinical office setting as an Ophthalmic Technician is preferred.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. The successful candidate will be required to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time and be able to move about to escort patients and gather supplies.
