This position is designed for an early-career actuarial analyst. The selected candidate will engage in Highmark's Actuarial Executive Development Program and is expected to progress towards obtaining actuarial credentials. The role involves leveraging industry experience to identify and analyze problems, determine data needs for studies, and propose viable solutions. Additionally, the analyst will mentor junior staff and provide analytical support to team members while leading the creation of actuarial studies, analyses, and presentation materials to guide decision-making processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and analyze issues, outlining necessary data for studies and formulating potential solutions. Evaluate results based on industry knowledge and experience, considering alternative perspectives before reaching conclusions.
  • Develop studies, analyses, and presentation materials to effectively inform stakeholders. Provide strategic recommendations to management across various teams within the actuarial department.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in all deliverables, utilizing industry insights to conduct reasonability checks and exceed client expectations. Identify methods to validate results.
  • Proactively engage with internal and external knowledge sources to enhance industry understanding. Demonstrate expertise and be a resource for others in producing accurate and efficient work. Identify discrepancies in colleagues' work and seek feedback for personal growth.
  • Understand the objectives of your role, your team, and internal stakeholders. Use your expertise to envision and implement process improvements that align with corporate goals and values.
  • Manage your time and resources effectively across multiple projects. Exhibit flexibility and responsiveness when transitioning between tasks, approaching challenges with a proactive mindset.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to foster teamwork and convey competence. Provide clear explanations of technical work to both technical and non-technical audiences, offering decision support to team members.
  • Mentor junior staff regularly, promoting teamwork and excellence. Be open to feedback and demonstrate adaptability by taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years in an actuarial role.

Preferred:

  • Completion of 10 or more Exam Components.

SKILLS

  • In-depth knowledge of actuarial principles and practices across various disciplines.
  • Ability to tackle complex assignments and visualize solutions while guiding others in straightforward tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
