Role Summary:

The Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for preparing cables and enclosures, performing fusion splicing, conducting verification tests, troubleshooting issues, and repairing fiber optic cables. This role involves reviewing, creating, and maintaining splicing diagrams and ensuring accurate documentation of splicing and field notes while adhering to project timelines. The technician will also conduct end-to-end OTDR testing, analyze results for acceptable loss readings, and compile closeout packages with documentation and images.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Terminate, fusion splice, and install various fiber optic connectors and enclosures, including loose tube and ribbon fiber up to 288 count.
  • Ensure the security of the outside fiber plant (OSP) network, both aerial and underground.
  • Perform mid-sheath/ring cuts/midspan entries on cables without service interruption. Proficiently use fiber tools and testing equipment.
  • Possess knowledge of electronic equipment and specialty tools.
  • Effectively troubleshoot damaged fiber.
  • Adhere to safety standards and procedures in compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Read, understand, and update splice documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft software, including PowerPoint, email, and databases.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Fiber Optic Certification Training preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English; bilingual candidates are a plus.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • 1-3 years of experience in fiber optic telecommunications.
  • Able to work at heights and in confined spaces, with color identification skills.
  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
