The AgriBusiness Division has been dedicated to assisting farmers and ranchers in navigating the uncertainties of their operations since 1886. Currently, this division offers coverage for full-time agricultural enterprises across 44 states. The range of farm products encompasses businesses from fruit and vegetable cultivation to livestock management, with equine products addressing a diverse array of risks, including property and liability, care custody or control, as well as umbrella and auto coverage.

We are seeking an Agricultural Risk Underwriting Expert to enhance our AgriBusiness Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for evaluating risk acceptance, pricing strategies, retention, growth, and profitability aligned with divisional goals.
  • Utilizes independent judgment and initiative to advance business objectives.
  • Maintains exemplary customer service standards.
  • Reviews coverage and limit requests, determining appropriate terms to offer.
  • Prices business in accordance with established company guidelines.
  • Evaluates risk quality and compliance, initiating necessary loss prevention measures.
  • Requests and reviews various reports essential for the rating and underwriting processes, including Motor Vehicle reports, loss history reports, credit assessments, and loss control inspections.
  • Builds and sustains effective business relationships with internal and external stakeholders to attract and retain profitable accounts.
  • Interprets, communicates, and promotes products and services effectively.
  • Establishes connections with agents and brokers through telephone communications.
  • Administers and updates underwriting rules, guidelines, and relevant insurance regulations.
  • Provides technical guidance to junior associates and collaborates with other departments.
  • May oversee performance and development of staff, participating in talent selection and performance management decisions.
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Field of Study: Business, Liberal Arts, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Typically requires 6 to 10 years of relevant experience. Candidates may be in the process of obtaining or may have completed certifications such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).

Additional Information:

  • Scope of Work: Operates under limited supervision and technical guidance, relying on experience and judgment to achieve objectives. Works with considerable autonomy on complex assignments and is regarded as a senior resource within the Underwriting department.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Continuous use of a computer.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
