Job Summary

The City of Eustis, FL is seeking a highly skilled Public Relations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Communications Department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies and initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of public relations principles, mass communications, and marketing, as well as excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement external marketing and communications programs to promote awareness of organizational goals, objectives, and activities to citizens and community leaders.
  • Work closely with the Communications Specialist to develop and implement effective communication strategies.
  • Support the City Manager and City Commissioners at community meetings and events.
  • Develop informational, marketing, and promotional materials using a variety of media, including newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, consumer publications, radio and television public service announcements, reports, videos, and the City's website.
  • Coordinate communications with the news media as the primary City contact, by preparing news releases and public service announcements.
  • Prepare a variety of written correspondence, Commission proclamations, and resolutions, reports, and other written materials.
  • Oversee the technical and contextual aspects of maintaining the City's home page on the World Wide Web.
  • Ensure website content for currency, accuracy, and availability of information, updating and implementing changes as needed.
  • Research new technology advancements and products to implement and integrate web features.
  • Maintain central e-mail interface with website visitors, responding to inquiries and requests in a timely manner and/or referring correspondence to appropriate city staff or community organizations.
  • Assess the City's communication needs and evaluate the effectiveness of communication programs.
  • Assist in coordinating and publicizing special events and activities.
  • Act as city-wide coordinator to Police, Fire, and other departments for media relations and public involvement and participate in developing effective communication strategies for key issues.
  • Coordinate emergency public information processes and procedures.
  • Attend and present information and programs at meetings and serve as the City's liaison to various business and civic organizations, as well as community and neighborhood groups.
  • Respond to general public inquiries and complaints and work to resolve related issues.
  • Develop, initiate, and manage various special projects and assignments, as directed by the Events & Communication Director.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field, supplemented by at least five years of increasingly responsible experience in public affairs, public information, or public relations. A combination of education and/or training and/or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the job will be considered. Experience in developing and managing websites is highly desirable. Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.

Working Hours

Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, employee needs to have flexible availability to work nights and weekends, when required.

Supplemental Information

This is primarily sedentary work with some periods of moderate physical effort. Requires sitting for long periods of time; walking short distances; bending and reaching; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight, hearing, and speech; occasional lifting up to 35 pounds and occasional carrying/pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds.

Salary Information

$59,477.03 to $89,367.05 per year; EXCELLENT benefits (Note: See Benefits Tab for more information). Additional consideration may be given to applicants with more extensive education, training, or experience. Following a thorough background investigation including a criminal history and driver's license check, the candidate will be given a conditional offer of employment.
