Job Summary

Apellis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Staff to support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in driving the company's medical affairs strategy and operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical affairs, excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic support to the CMO in developing and implementing medical affairs strategies and plans.
  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams to achieve medical affairs objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including medical professionals, regulatory agencies, and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with the medical affairs team to develop and implement clinical trial protocols and study designs.
  • Provide medical and scientific expertise to support the development of company policies and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies to ensure the company remains competitive.
Requirements
  • Ph.D., PharmD, or other advanced scientific degree with a minimum of 10+ years of operating experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Extensive background in medical affairs or broad knowledge about drug development and commercialization.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with executive leadership and important external stakeholders.
  • High EQ with ability to earn the respect and trust of the CMO, leadership, and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Highly skilled at communicating scientific and clinical information within the drug development environment, including expert use of PowerPoint and other presentation tools.
