Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly qualified English as a Second Language (ESL) lecturer to join our team at Kapi'olani Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, delivering, and assessing instruction in ESL courses at various levels, including transfer, advanced, intermediate, and beginner levels. The lecturer will also be expected to teach in the Intensive English Program (IEP) and perform other teaching-related duties.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Teach ESL courses at various levels, including transfer, advanced, intermediate, and beginner levels, as well as in the Intensive English Program (IEP).
- Course Development: Design and develop course syllabi and reports related to teaching and student progress.
- Assessment: Assess student learning in terms of student learning outcomes and program learning outcomes.
- Collaboration: Integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
- Office Hours: Maintain one office hour per week per three-credit class taught for conferring with students about course work.
- Self-Assessment: Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations.
- Flexibility: Teach evening and/or weekend class offerings as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree: Master's degree in English, English as a Second Language (ESL), or Master's in Fine Arts (Creative Writing).
- Teaching Experience: Relevant coursework and successful teaching at either the secondary or postsecondary level, preferably at the community college level.
- Commitment to Diversity: Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of the community college with its open-door policy and its diverse population.
- Assessment Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Technology Integration: Demonstrated ability to teach in online and hybrid environments, as well as to integrate technology to support learning inside and outside the traditional classroom.
- Curriculum Development: Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in current trends in the areas of second language development and theories of learning, and demonstrated ability to develop and adapt teaching materials based on these trends.
- Willingness to Author Materials: Willingness to author and develop materials to support instruction.
