Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach courses in the assigned subject area;
- Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;
- Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;
- Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;
- Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;
- Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week).
- Classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends.
Functionally native fluency in ASL (ASL proficiency interview level 4 or 5), training/education in ASL teaching methodology (e.g. American Sign Instructors Guidance Network, or Signing Naturally Teachers Training) and one of the following:Master's in ASL, ASL studies, literature, or linguistics; ORMaster's in Linguistics; ORMaster's in Teaching ASL; ORMaster's in Deaf Studies; ORMaster's in Signed Communication; ORMaster's in Deaf Education; ORMaster's in Education; ORMaster's in ESL; ORMaster's in Related field (Special Education, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Instruction or Interpreting); ORBachelor's in ASL, ASL studies, literature or linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in Linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in Teaching ASL AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in Deaf Studies AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in Signed Communication AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in Deaf Education AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in Education AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in ESL AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; ORBachelor's in Related field (Special Education, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Instruction, or Interpreting) AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English.Desirable Qualifications
- Teaching experience related to the course(s) to be taught at the community college level.
- Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
- Work experience related to the course(s) to be taught.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively.
- Familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate research projects in discipline.
