Position Summary

Randolph College is in search of a dedicated and service-oriented professional to become a part of the Business Office team. The Financial Accountant will oversee various accounting responsibilities, including but not limited to monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and balance sheets, preparation and processing of general ledger entries, and management of gift recording and reconciliations. This role also involves assisting with the annual audit and the preparation of financial statements. The ideal candidate will apply generally accepted accounting principles and procedures while working with specialized accounting records and reports, and will be adept at assembling and analyzing data and transactions for reporting purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting functions for the Campus Store, including:
    • Recording deposits
    • Reconciling statements
    • Adjusting inventory
    • Reporting sales and use tax
  • Oversee the review and filing of sales and use tax documents.
  • Handle accounting and recordkeeping for the federal Perkins Loan program, which includes:
    • Acting as a liaison between Financial Aid and the Business Office
    • Assisting in the preparation of the annual financial aid Fiscal Operations Report
    • Reconciling balances with third-party loan servicers
    • Preparing journal entries for loan accounts
    • Reconciling Perkins Loan cash accounts
  • Enter Development gift batches weekly, including:
    • Quarterly Gift Reconciliation
    • Quarterly Stock Gain/Loss
    • Quarterly Pledges Receivables
  • Serve as the primary backup for Accounts Payable functions.
  • Review accounts payable batches and transactions for accuracy.
  • Audit travel advances and expenses, and research outstanding advances.
  • Journalize mortgage payments and manage annual reporting.
  • Conduct various bank reconciliations and prepaid expense reconciliations.
  • Journalize monthly chargebacks and credit card activity, along with other general journal entries as necessary.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual internal audit for the Alumnae/i Association.
  • Support the annual audit and preparation of financial statements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with large datasets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience with bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prior experience in higher education accounting.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains.

Work Environment

This position is office-based. Occasional lifting of up to 10-15 lbs may be required, along with walking or bending as part of job functions.
