Join Flowserve as a Senior Cost Accountant

Flowserve is a global leader in comprehensive flow control solutions, and we're seeking a highly skilled Senior Cost Accountant to join our Regional Accounting Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing cost accounting responsibilities, supporting Finance Business Partners, and providing insight and consultation on cost accounting matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Focus on process improvements, identify and escalate issues and bottlenecks
  • Support the Accounting Supervisor and Finance Business Partners in calculating standard costs, rates, and costing standards, and analyze their impacts on product costs
  • Conduct inventory accounting, including physical cycle counts, audits, and variance identification and resolution, ensuring proper classification of inventory and material, verifying and calculating purchasing rates
  • Research, troubleshoot, and answer basic to complex questions and advise the Finance Business Partner organization on cost model issues, including In and Out margins analysis, participate and support project reviews, support special costing projects for customer quotations, productivity, efficiency, utilization analysis, etc.
  • Analyze variances from standard through financial closing of work orders on a timely basis and investigate the source and resolution of significant variances
  • Reconcile inventory accounts monthly and fulfill all related reporting requirements
  • Explore and analyze root causes of any cost model or business finance issues and propose policy or process changes to improve work moving forward
  • Identify cost incurred and participate in Project Status Review to obtain information used on Revenue accounting records and calculations for both Percentage-of-Completion and Point-in-Time projects
  • Review low-margin products and projects, calculate the Excess and Obsolete reserve, analyze and comply with Warranty and Capitalization of Manufacturing Variances policies, and ensure these accruals are accounted for properly and timely
  • Provide actual information used as a base for Costs and Margins for Percentage-of-Completion and Point-in-Time projects forecast
  • Support and provide value-added insight during implementation of SAP throughout the business requirements, data migration, and conversion processes
  • Support site- and company-wide initiatives related to shortening the close process, efficiency KPIs, rework, backlog reduction, etc.
  • Work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Planning, Project Management, and Engineering to complete all job responsibilities on a timely basis
  • Assist with documentation, explanations, and ad hoc reporting related to interim and year-end audits
Requirements:
  • Four or more years of relevant cost accounting experience at industrial manufacturing companies
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel spreadsheet skills required
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with US GAAP
  • Process-oriented approach with focus on quality work products and deadline adherence
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills; ability to apply judgment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to package and present complex information in an effective and efficient manner
  • Good research and issue resolution skills; proactive attitude
  • Ability to assess and recommend solutions for assigned projects
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, perform, and communicate activities both in written and verbal form
  • Ability to work with remote teams in a decentralized matrix organization
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting experience is a plus
