As a Senior Automation Controls Specialist at Lucid Motors, you will play a crucial role in the General Assembly department by developing factory-level and line/machine-level control standards and specifications for use by our internal equipment development teams and external partners.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Maintain comprehensive electrical schematics for entire assembly lines, ensuring they are current and accurate.
  • Design, write, and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic, focusing on producing organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code. This PLC code will interface with subsystems such as conveyors, robotics, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), LabView, machine vision, and third-party equipment.
  • Implement control-reliable safety systems compliant with ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA standards to safeguard robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing machinery.
  • Create user-friendly HMI screens for complex machinery while providing adequate feedback for troubleshooting.
  • Select and size electrical and electromechanical components, including servos.
  • Enforce adherence to Lucid Motors standards and manage external integrators during specification, design review, and approval processes.
  • Train maintenance and production teams to effectively support automated equipment post-deployment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot machine interactions with the plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to communicate product acceptability, machine status, and process variables.
  • Debug and optimize automated processes to enhance cycle time, availability, and yield.
  • Assist in the development of maintenance technical team members to improve their troubleshooting skills.
  • Provide insights for new equipment controls in development for future phases.
Your Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Controls Engineer or Robotics Engineer, focusing on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Expertise in process integration and electromechanical/mechatronic systems.
  • Thorough understanding of safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
  • Advanced skills in programming industrial equipment, particularly Siemens functionalities and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in ladder logic PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and RS-Logix 5000).
  • Experience with safety PLCs (Allen Bradley Contro-Logix, Smart-Guard, Omron, Pilz).
  • Knowledge of Human Machine Interface (HMI/GUI - AB Panel view, FactoryTalk, LabView, Ignition).
  • Familiarity with field bus networks (AB Device Net, Ethernet IP, safety-rated field bus networks).
  • Proficient in serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments.
  • Experience with Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems.
  • Demonstrated excellence in PLC programming with a well-defined methodology for maintaining code structure and organization.
  • Ability to program state machines for complex processes involving multi-station parallel processing, pick and place automation, data acquisition, and PID control, with proven capability in designing fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery.
  • Proficient in selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wiring, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD, and servo systems.
  • Skilled in creating detailed electrical and fluid schematics using CAD (preferably AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Experienced in programming and tuning variable frequency drives.
