We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Control Specialist to join our team at the City of Casa Grande, AZ. As an Animal Control Specialist, you will be responsible for performing a variety of animal control, rabies control, and law enforcement activities to safeguard citizens from dangerous animals.
Key Responsibilities- Animal Control and Rabies Control: Respond to citizen calls for service; capture, contain, and impound animals at-large, including sick, injured, and vicious animals; relocate wild animals; investigate animal bite reports; collect and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Investigations and Enforcement: Investigate nuisance and animal cruelty complaints; interview witnesses; notify owners and involved parties of animal violations and corrective actions; write reports, issue citations, and prepare court documents and testify in court.
- Animal Welfare and Care: Transport animals to shelter; pick up and dispose of dead animals; issue cat traps; provide animal-related information to the public; respond to questions regarding animal and rabies control issues; assist with vaccination and license clinics.
- Shelter Operations: Assist in operating the City animal shelter in accordance with all laws, ordinances, and established procedures; clean and maintain safe and sanitary conditions in the animal shelter.
- Animal Handling and Care: Perform basic animal care, including cleaning and feeding animals, medical care, restraint, and infection control procedures; evaluate animals for survival and adoptability, and euthanize animals as necessary.
- Administrative Tasks: Write correspondence and reports; process reports, forms, licenses, fees, and files; perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years' experience in an animal-related field.
- Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License; specific technical training and certifications may be required.
Work is performed outdoors and in the City Animal Shelter. The City does not hire at the top of the range. Candidate may start above the beginning of the range depending on qualifications.
