The Senior Powertrain Control Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that both new and existing control systems comply with production throughput, safety, and quality standards. This position also involves designing and executing continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the company's objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate familiarity with control systems, equipment I/Os, and fundamental machine coding logic.
  • Collaborate with layout engineering to optimize Powertrain line configurations.
  • Engage with various equipment types, including robotics, end-of-arm tooling, pick-and-place automation, position sensors, material handling systems, fluid dispensing, vision systems, conveyors, and laser cleaning and welding technologies.
  • Develop comprehensive controls standards and specifications for application by both internal development teams and external partners.
  • Design data management and tracking communication networks, interfacing with cross-functional teams for product, process, and quality traceability control implementation.
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC ladder logic, focusing on creating organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable code that interacts with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), LabView, machine vision, and third-party equipment.
  • Implement compliant control safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment.
  • Create user-friendly HMI screens for complex machinery while ensuring adequate feedback for troubleshooting.
  • Enforce adherence to Lucid Motors standards and manage external integrators during specification, design review, and approval processes.
  • Establish test plans and oversee their execution at both vendor locations and Lucid Motors facilities during installation and buy-off phases.
  • Provide training to Maintenance and Production teams to support automated equipment post-deployment.
  • Facilitate machine interactions with the plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to relay product acceptability, machine status, and process variables.
  • Debug and optimize automated processes to enhance cycle time, availability, and yield.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • Proficient in process integration and electromechanical/mechatronic systems.
  • In-depth understanding of safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
  • Advanced programming skills in industrial equipment, including:
  • Ladder logic PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and RSLogix 5000).
  • Safety PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, SmartGuard, etc.).
  • Human Machine Interface (experience with IGNITION is essential).
  • Field bus Networks (Ethernet IP, safety-rated field bus networks).
  • Serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments.
  • Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems.
  • Proven excellence in PLC programming, with a well-defined methodology for maintaining code structure and organization. Ability to program state machines for complex processes involving multi-station parallel processing, pick-and-place automation, data acquisition, and PID control. Demonstrated capability in designing fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery.
  • Experience in selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD, and servo systems.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (LVDT and pressure transducers, dispense systems, temperature controllers, DC nut runner torque controllers, current and power meters, etc.).
  • Familiarity with programming Fanuc Robots is advantageous.
  • Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc) is preferred.
  • Ability to create technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desirable.
  • Experience in transitioning products and processes from prototype to production is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of production quality metrics is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks and CATIA is advantageous.
