Director of Development Job Description

Covenant House Texas, a leading non-profit organization serving homeless youth in Houston, is seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead our fundraising efforts.

About Us

We provide a comprehensive continuum of care model for homeless youth, including mental health and substance abuse counseling, educational and vocational training, transitional and permanent living programs, street outreach and prevention, pastoral ministry and parenting classes.

Job Summary

The Director of Development will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan to raise philanthropic resources for Covenant House Texas. This includes managing a team of development professionals, creating and maintaining donor relationships, and identifying opportunities for major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet organizational goals.
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts.
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer to create and maintain a prospect pool, including researching and identifying potential donors.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify funding opportunities and create tailored asks for key donors.
  • Represent Covenant House Texas at functions and events, including speaking engagements and donor meetings.
  • Prepare lists of prospective donor calls for CEO, CDO, and board members.
  • Participate in strategic planning processes and support all key fundraising events and donor cultivation events.
  • Establish and ensure appropriate donor recognition methods and manage stewardship process for individual donors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum seven years of fundraising experience, with at least three years in a management role.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and possess understanding of 'moves management' strategies.
  • Experience in managing a substantial portfolio of five and six-figure prospects.
  • Ability to take direction, set priorities, balance demands of multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • A high degree of initiative, flexibility, teamwork, and diligence.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database information management.
Compensation and Benefits

$105,000 - $120,000 salary range, depending on experience. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
