Job Description Summary

This position represents a unique opportunity for a talented and highly motivated individual to become a proactive member of BD's global Operational Excellence community.

Reporting to the plant OPEX Manager, the site BD Excellence Senior Engineer will be passionate about creating a culture of operational and customer excellence, implementing change, and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) across the network through BD Excellence.

This strong operational excellence and continuous improvement identity will be created through the systematic application of BD Excellence, methodologies, and associated tools, to ensure sustainable optimization of performance in the areas of quality, delivery, and cost, whilst improving safety.

Responsibilities
  1. Active member of Focused Improvement component team.
  2. Develop and grow problem-solving capability at all levels.
  3. Support implementation of CI projects across all dimensions SQDC.
  4. Help coordinate activity of component teams and focused improvement project teams to eliminate loss, according to strategic goals.
  5. Help generate, sustain, and deliver a multi-year Cost to Win (CTW) portfolio, support governance processes, and optimization of the site loss landscape.
  6. Help meet or exceed CtW (Cost to Win) goals through leading and/or supporting Focused Improvement team savings projects (Loss Landscape).
  7. Teach and coach BD Excellence concepts and systematic approach, including strategy deployment, core components, Zero Loss mentality, and all related methodologies/tools.
  8. Lead and facilitate breakthrough Kaizen events and support other BD Excellence components in problem-solving capability development.
  9. Support development of zero loss attitude across critical areas to optimize quality, delivery, and cost while improving safety.
  10. Help develop and grow capability through components and component teams to establish the fundamentals of excellence in safety, quality, and reliability.
  11. Coach and guide project selection process to ensure focus of resources and time on priorities.
  12. Ensure strategic alignment through cascading Key Performance Indicators top down and bottom up. Support BD Excellence deployment and governance process across all relevant components.
  13. Drive BD Excellence capability development through deployment of progressively advanced aspects of component methodologies. Support attainment of long-term CI objectives through multi-functional teams with shared goal.
  14. Drive use of effective data-driven visual-management techniques, e.g., Business-Operating-System (BOS) charts to drive improvement of critical metrics such as OEE, waste, labor productivity, etc.
  15. Active role in governance and action tracking of improvements, with periodic reporting of activity completion dates, expected, and achieved results.

Provides some input/level of influence regarding key plant decisions and resource planning.

May represent company to external organizations.

Implements responsibilities with a large degree of autonomy requiring minimal day-to-day oversight by immediate supervisor.

Accountable for setting own work direction and completing work tasks.

Erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays and result in the allocation of more resources.

Has some impact on cost, productivity, CtW performance, and OPEX budget.

Technical Area of Expertise

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering.

Previous experience in implementing, and strong knowledge of, Lean and Six Sigma business systems. Six sigma green or black belt certification preferred.

Demonstrated passion for safety, customer centricity, and operational excellence.

Minimum 3 years manufacturing experience in a plant.

Understanding of the interaction between operational excellence and customer service.

Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills with people at all levels.

Track record in project or program management.

Experience of working in a multi-site and multi-cultural environment.

Eye for business and ability to display the linkage between projects and desired business results.

Able to develop compelling business case for resource investment, aligned with CTW finance policies and guidelines.
