Job Summary

The New York City Department of Education is seeking a highly skilled Senior Recruitment Coordinator to join our team. This role will play a critical part in attracting and retaining a diverse teaching force, with a focus on recruiting and selecting high-quality candidates for our schools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage key City Hall initiatives to attract and retain a more diverse teaching force, partnering with CUNY, YMI, CEO, and other key university partners.
  • Liaise with YMI staff in City Hall and national and local college of education staff to recruit and expand pathways for a diverse teaching force.
  • Coordinate with national and local university partners on the full program cycle of recruitment pipeline initiatives.
  • Manage the marketing and branding of traditional pipeline candidates and liaise with university partners in recruitment and enrollment for DOE-wide teacher hiring and preparation programs.
  • Coordinate and develop messages to traditional and alternative certification candidates in the New Teacher Finder.
  • Review, coordinate, and monitor messages to alternative certification candidates in email marketing and applicant platforms.
  • Review and refine applicant and program guides, such as the New Teacher Application Guide, Welcome Guide, Onboarding Guide, etc.
  • Manage the creation and execution of quality programmatic guides that reflect TRQ's and DOE's policies around equity, inclusion, and participation in alternative certification programs.
  • Coordinate and review communications design, as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for program- and centrally-based staff for marketing and communications by developing a consistent brand for alternative and traditional recruitment pipelines.
  • Provide community leaders and potential candidate pools with resources and applicant support; facilitate awareness of needs and trends within the community.
  • Collaborate with national and local university leadership.
  • Manage the collection and reports for cyclical feedback with internal and external partners.
  • Support Senior Directors and their teams to craft and define the message scope and sequences for all stages of the candidate journey for multiple recruitment pipelines that cover more than 1,000 candidates.
  • Develop and maintain a library of tools to ensure that team members are able to effectively create messages that are aligned to our branding.
  • Collaborate with team members in their development of new communications or written resources.
  • Coordinate the work of the Recruitment Team to conduct outreach to new candidate pools through marketing, job boards, etc.
  • Plan projects and programs and ensure that key communications are developed, refined, and released in a timely manner.
  • Design, refine, and lead implementation of a communications plan that is robust, effective, and data-driven.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in '1' above.

  • In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in '1' above
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years prior experience in recruitment, communications, or related fields.
  • Expertise in community organizing, talent pipeline/workforce development initiatives, marketing, communications, and/or recruitment.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills to work cooperatively with community members and district leadership to prepare clear and cogent written documents and to facilitate meetings.
  • Proficient in messaging and branding for large and diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in or with schools, especially in urban public schools.
  • Experience with basic design and editing tools such as Canva, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience with facilitating working groups, committees, and presentations.
  • Deep understanding of teacher recruitment and hiring in NYC or large urban cities.
  • Ability to use online registration, training, and survey platforms such as Eventbrite and SurveyGizmo.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with people at all levels and motivate others through storytelling and messaging.
  • Experienced with working in a fast-paced environment and in an education or government setting.
  • A high degree of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to travel frequently to conduct presentations in all boroughs.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Salary

$73,336 - $76,828

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
