Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at Fayette County Public Schools. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeteria, offices, and related facilities
  • Sweep, mop, and clean gymnasium floors as assigned
  • Monitor gym events to ensure orderly behavior and protect the building from damage
  • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate authorities
  • Perform minor non-technical repairs and maintain security of buildings
  • Order supplies according to established guidelines and procedures
  • Pick up and rake paper, trash, and debris around school grounds and in buildings
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor strippers, and power sweepers
Requirements
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Ability to perform routine custodial activities and use cleaning materials, equipment, and methods according to pre-determined standards
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of schedules, procedures, and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work
  • Ability to maintain tools and equipment in clean working order and provide proper security
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor and meet schedules and time lines
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent standing, sitting, and walking. The ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing is also required. The position involves exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
