Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at Fayette County Public Schools. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeterias, offices, and related facilities
  • Sweep, mop, and clean gymnasium floors as assigned
  • Monitor gym events to ensure orderly behavior and protect the building from damage
  • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the appropriate authority
  • Perform minor non-technical repairs and maintain security of buildings
  • Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate
  • Order supplies according to established guidelines and procedures
  • Pack, unpack, load, receive, and store books, supplies, materials, and other items
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor strippers, cleaning buffers, and polishers
  • Shovel, plow, and sand walks and steps as directed
Requirements
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate as required by Kentucky law
  • Basic methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial work and routine maintenance
  • Proper lifting techniques and ability to perform routine custodial activities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, lift up to 75 pounds, and stand for extended periods. The successful candidate will be required to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends.
