Position Summary:

The Cloud Operations Specialist at gWorks plays a crucial role in managing our AWS production infrastructure. This position is vital for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our systems, which are essential for our clients' operational success. The Specialist will work in close collaboration with the DevOps and Software Engineering teams to drive innovation and maintain high operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • AWS Infrastructure Management: Lead the design, implementation, and oversight of our AWS production systems, ensuring optimal availability and resilience.
  • Infrastructure Resilience: Develop and sustain failure-resistant environments utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Security Protocols: Establish and uphold zero-trust security frameworks to safeguard systems and data, ensuring rigorous authentication and authorization for all access requests.
  • Automation and CI/CD: Create and manage a fully automated CI/CD pipeline to streamline code deployment processes.
  • Team Collaboration: Partner with DevOps and Software Engineering teams to align operational activities with business objectives and client needs.
  • Monitoring Solutions: Implement comprehensive monitoring and logging systems to track service health, performance, and security, proactively addressing any issues.
  • Documentation and Training: Maintain thorough documentation of infrastructure setups, deployment workflows, and best practices, while sharing knowledge with team members through various training methods.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive experience in software engineering, demonstrating a history of leading successful operational and development teams.
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies and project management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing AWS production environments.
  • Expertise in designing failure-resilient infrastructures.
  • Experience with zero-trust security principles.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services and tools (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, Lambda).
  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and automation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch and the ELK stack.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and security protocols.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Performance Metrics:

  • Achieve high uptime for the AWS production environment through resilient infrastructure and proactive monitoring.
  • Minimize security incidents by fully implementing zero-trust security measures.
  • Enhance deployment efficiency through the establishment of a fully automated CI/CD pipeline.

Work Environment:
