Position Overview:
The Vice President of Patient Access Operations plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Patient Access Services within the WellStar Health System. Reporting directly to the Vice President of the Comprehensive Access Center, this position is integral to the leadership team.
The primary responsibility of this role is to craft a strategic vision and actionable plan aimed at achieving exceptional patient access processes across all entry points within the health system.
Key Responsibilities:
This leadership position encompasses the management of various patient access services, including:
- Scheduling
- Authorization
- Registration
- Financial Counseling
- Prior Authorization
- Compliance with 501(r)
The Vice President will collaborate with stakeholders to pinpoint opportunities for both immediate and long-term enhancements in patient access and financial outcomes for individuals seeking care.
In this capacity, the individual will oversee the development, execution, and overall management of Patient Access Services, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of WellStar Health System, with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction and revenue optimization.
This role involves direct leadership of Executive Directors within Patient Access Services and hospital management, as well as oversight of a substantial number of indirect staff members responsible for patient access functions across various facilities.
The Vice President will focus on performance optimization, fostering internal capabilities, and implementing a rigorous approach to delivering patient access services, prioritizing patient experience and resource management.
Building a culture of accountability and ownership will be essential, as the Vice President maintains positive relationships with team members, medical staff, and senior leadership.
Frequent interaction with physicians, financial services, social work, care coordination, and other internal departments is expected, along with regular engagement with external entities such as payers and regulatory bodies.
The Vice President must ensure the establishment of a collaborative patient access team that delivers seamless services to patients, payers, and healthcare professionals.
Core Functions:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for Patient Access Services, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Enhance performance in registration and financial clearance processes, driving improvements in satisfaction levels.
- Contribute to the revenue cycle leadership team by developing strategic initiatives and process improvements.
- Accountable for the registration process and management of Patient Access Directors.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with the strategic goals of the health system.
- Facilitate departmental expansion and service modifications as needed.
- Develop strategic plans for performance improvement and ensure departments meet industry benchmarks.
- Collaborate with various teams to address quality and safety issues impacting patient experience.
- Manage exception events efficiently to maintain compliance and reimbursement standards.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Management.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years in healthcare, with at least 5 years in patient access or financial services, and progressive leadership experience in revenue cycle management.
Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, project management capabilities, and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare reimbursement methods and regulations.
