Laboratory Technician-Specimen Collector

As a Laboratory Technician-Specimen Collector with The Henry Ford Health System, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services. Under limited supervision, you will perform a variety of laboratory support procedures, including specimen collection, order entry, processing, point of care testing, and transport of laboratory specimens. Your attention to detail and ability to work independently will be essential in maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient care. Key Responsibilities
• Collect and process laboratory specimens for testing and analysis
• Enter and process laboratory orders and results
• Perform point of care testing and other laboratory procedures as needed
• Transport laboratory specimens to and from testing areas
• Maintain accurate records and reports of laboratory activities
• Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure efficient and effective laboratory operations
• Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with laboratory procedures and technologies
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to all relevant health and safety protocols
Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a phlebotomy or specimen collection role
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with patients, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) preferred
• Certification in phlebotomy or a related field, such as ASCP or NCA, preferred
