Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant-Specimen Collector to join our team at Henry Ford Health System. This role will involve performing a variety of laboratory support procedures, including specimen collection, order entry, and processing of laboratory specimens and materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and prepare patient specimens for laboratory testing, with a focus on preanalytic and post-analytic processes.
  • Enter patient demographic and test order information into lab information systems in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and handle routine inquiries from patients and staff.
  • Perform blood sample collection or phlebotomy as a primary duty, with a minimum of 25% of scheduled hours.
  • Review laboratory request forms for complete demographic and order entry information and resolve discrepancies as needed.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
  • A minimum of six months experience in phlebotomy is required.
  • New employees must successfully complete competency evaluation and demonstrate safety and proficiency with all patient ages who are likely to present for service.
  • Experience in a hospital or clinic laboratory is preferred.
