Job Summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing accurate and timely laboratory results to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process patient samples for laboratory testing
  • Perform clinical laboratory procedures, including waived, moderate, and high complexity tests
  • Analyze test results for validity and accuracy
  • Recognize and troubleshoot subtle problems with testing methodologies
  • Implement corrective action when inaccurate or inappropriate findings are identified
  • Assure that designated turnaround times for results are met and critical results are appropriately reported and documented
  • Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures
  • Interpret and troubleshoot quality control results
  • Perform preventative maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation
  • Participate in method and instrument evaluation and implementation
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues
  • Participate in teaching students and training new partners
  • Complete and sign off on competency checklists for techs
  • Develop and update procedures as requested
  • Serve as a resource to inexperienced partners
  • Perform additional tasks, such as scheduling and antibiograms
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or equivalent
  • MT/MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification (BB, C, H, or M) required within 12 months of hire
  • MLT Certification and 5 years of experience
Working Conditions

The Medical Laboratory Specialist will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, frequently standing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talking and hearing. The employee may occasionally walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may have occasion to reach overhead to pick up objects or to adjust items. The employee may have occasion to bend under or crawl under bench to move or obtain objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
