Core Responsibilities:
The Clinical Laboratory Technician embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to our Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program while complying with all relevant policies and accreditation standards. Key responsibilities include:
  • Performing phlebotomy and other laboratory specimen collections according to age-related standards.
  • Providing appropriate post-phlebotomy care to patients.
  • Identifying situations requiring medical assistance and responding appropriately.
  • Maintaining accurate records of refrigerator temperatures and quality control measures.
  • Conducting low complexity testing under the supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Following established laboratory procedures meticulously.
  • Managing outstanding orders and effectively communicating with team members during shift transitions.
  • Inputting and retrieving laboratory results in the hospital's computer systems.
  • Processing specimens for transport to reference laboratories while adhering to safety protocols.

Schedule:
This position typically involves five 8.5-hour shifts per week on the evening schedule, with operational hours from 2 PM to 10:30 PM or 3 PM to 11:30 PM. The Central Specimen Processing department operates seven days a week, requiring staff to rotate weekend and vacation coverage to meet patient care needs.
