Job Summary:
Mercyhealth is seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting blood and other samples from patients, processing specimens, and performing administrative duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect blood and other samples from patients using aseptic technique and following appropriate procedures.
- Process specimens and perform administrative duties as required.
- Work at other Mercyhealth facilities performing the same functions, as required.
- Work alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to adequately provide services.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements:
- Proficiently collect other samples as indicated, including throat swabs, MRSA swabs, urine samples, heel sticks, finger sticks, blood cultures, and blood bank specimens.
- Assure specimen integrity by using aseptic technique and following appropriate procedures.
- Provide patient instruction in the collection and handling of personally collected specimens.
- Possess the ability to assess patient response to procedure and interact with the patient at a level that is understandable and comfortable for the patient.
- Perform specialized sample collections, including breath alcohol testing, random urine drug, and Glucose Tolerance Testing.
- Maintain a well-rounded competency of all specimen collection procedures within the laboratory.
