POSITION OVERVIEW

The department is committed to public service and seeks to fill a Senior Tax Auditor position within its Tax Compliance and Education Division. This division is responsible for ensuring adherence to tax regulations and providing education to the business community.

The Senior Tax Auditor will be tasked with reviewing intricate financial records to assess tax liabilities accurately. This role may involve leading audit projects and mentoring junior auditors, fostering a collaborative and educational atmosphere. The position requires a high level of professionalism and diplomacy when engaging with various stakeholders. Travel may be necessary to conduct audits beyond the immediate area. Senior Tax Auditors operate under the guidance of a Tax Administration Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducting audits in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and auditing standards.
  • Independently managing extensive audits while adhering to division protocols.
  • Interpreting and applying tax laws and regulations relevant to the Phoenix Tax Code.
  • Providing guidance and support to taxpayers and staff regarding sales tax matters.
  • Engaging in thorough research on tax-related issues and drafting comprehensive reports for stakeholders.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of financial documentation, including invoices, sales records, and bank statements.
This role may offer flexible teleworking options following the completion of training, subject to departmental approval.

  • Proficient understanding of GAAP and auditing standards.
  • Strong analytical and independent decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office Suite effectively.
COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $74,796.80 to $105,248.00 annually.

Starting Salary Range: $74,796.80 to $90,916.80 annually.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Two years of experience in sales tax auditing, or four years of progressively responsible accounting and auditing experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess:
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience with GAAP and GAAS accounting practices.
  • Familiarity with Arizona tax statutes and auditing software.
  • Skills in conducting financial analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in public interaction and employee supervision.
