Office Nurse

At Huggins Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Office Nurse to join our team. As an Office Nurse, you will play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of quality care and medical services to our patients.
Clinical Care:
1. Accurately document patient information, including chief complaints, medical histories, and vital signs, in accordance with Best Practice Work Flows.
2. Prepare, instruct, and position patients for various medical procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
3. Perform EKGs, rapid strep screens, pregnancy tests, INR, flu swabs, and other tests as ordered by physicians or providers, adhering to CLIA waived regulations.
4. Conduct phlebotomy as needed, ensuring accurate and efficient blood collection.
5. Assist in minor surgeries and procedures, such as pap smears, suturing, dressing changes, catheterizations, skin lesion excisions, and casting, utilizing aseptic and sterile techniques.
6. Provide patients with educational materials and instruct them on medications, diet, exercise, care plan goals, and preventative guidelines specific to their diagnosis.
7. Prepare and administer medication as directed by physicians or providers, ensuring accurate dosing and documentation.
8. Ensure timely telephone assessments, including triage of appropriate care for patients, with accurate documentation and prioritized scheduling.
9. Order medications within Hospital policy for refills and prescription processing.
10. Collaborate with patients' providers to enhance compliance with treatment plan goals, documenting each visit for coding and billing purposes.
Patient Access and Office Coordination:
1. Schedule appointments and complete orders for patients, including procedures, tests, and consultations with other providers as requested by providers.
2. Complete and process referrals, pre-certifications, or pre-approvals as needed.
3. Answer telephones, file, and retrieve records as needed, ensuring efficient patient flow and timely assessment of patients presenting at the office.
Clinical Support:
1. Provide clinical support for all providers and physicians, including review of reports and clinical studies.
2. Assist providers and physicians with communication to patients regarding test results, recommendations, and responses to treatment plans.
3. Prepare examination rooms with needed supplies, instruments, and equipment, maintaining a clean environment.
4. Ensure providers and physicians are on schedule, mindful of emergencies and unexpected interruptions.
5. Prepare specimens and documentation for processing or transportation to processing facilities.
6. Ensure vaccines are handled and administered in accordance with standards of the NH Immunization Program, with provision for reporting of adverse events.
7. Act as a clinical leader and mentor, providing feedback and guidance to medical assistants.
8. Communicate clinical education needs to the Practice Coordinator and Practice Director to optimize functional team capacity.
9. Work with the Practice Director and Practice Coordinator to improve and/or implement clinical workflows within the practice.
10. Collaborate with Care Coordinators and Quality Management liaisons to help close identified patient care gaps, inspire clinical teams to strive for targeted quality goals, and link patients and their family members to resources for optimal care compliance.
Supply, Equipment, and Medication Coordination:
1. Supervise the maintenance of an inventory of supplies and equipment required to perform clinical services.
2. Ensure emergency equipment is checked and functional.
3. Care, clean, and sterilize equipment per instructions or established procedures.
4. Ensure hazardous materials are stored, handled, and disposed of in accordance with Hospital policies.
5. Ensure vaccines are stored in accordance with standards of the NH Immunization Program.
6. Work in collaboration with the Pharmacy Department regarding patients who are in need/eligible for sample medications, adhering to established processes of communication and procurement at Huggins pharmacy.
7. Order medical supplies and medications/immunizations as needed, keeping exam rooms and bathrooms stocked.

- Attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes.
- Completes all required annual education on or before the due date.
