Mortgage Loan Originator

As a Mortgage Loan Originator, you will be responsible for generating mortgage applications primarily within low-to-moderate income communities. This role involves active participation in Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) initiatives and activities within the bank's operational regions. Compliance with federal registration requirements under the SAFE Act is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently develop and nurture new mortgage business opportunities.
- Promote and market the bank's mortgage offerings to potential clients.
- Engage with prospective customers through home visits or business locations as necessary.
- Conduct follow-ups with potential clients via travel or phone communication.
- Market proprietary CRA products in collaboration with the Retail Bank Network and external organizations, including real estate firms and housing agencies.
- Advocate for agency-related products (FHA, VA, etc.) tailored to low-to-moderate income borrowers and neighborhoods.
- Interview applicants to gather and assess financial information, including income, assets, debts, and credit history, to evaluate loan eligibility.
- Independently determine the creditworthiness of applicants.
- Issue pre-qualification statements regarding borrowers' eligibility.
- Advise clients on suitable mortgage products that align with their financial situations, outlining the pros and cons of various options.
- Negotiate loan terms and conditions with borrowers.
- Ensure compliance with all lending procedures, bank policies, and regulatory standards.
- Provide insights to management on compliance strategies and potential policy modifications to enhance regulatory adherence.
- Collaborate with housing agencies and government entities focused on CRA objectives.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and government requirements relevant to CRA housing needs.
- Meet with potential clients to identify financial needs in relation to CRA guidelines and mortgage opportunities.
- Represent the bank in community events to foster business development.
- Conduct seminars for the public and real estate professionals to enhance community outreach and business growth.
This position plays a crucial role in fulfilling the bank's CRA obligations to federal regulators and the community. Building relationships with local housing agencies and organizations dedicated to CRA outreach is essential.
The role requires extensive travel with minimal supervision and involves significant external interactions with potential and existing clients, as well as internal collaboration with bank personnel.
Establishing and maintaining compliance with federal registration requirements outlined in the SAFE Act is a key responsibility.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not include supervisory or managerial duties.
Education and Experience Required:
An associate's degree with a minimum of two years of sales experience, or a combination of four years of higher education and/or relevant work experience, including at least two years in sales.
M&T Bank is dedicated to providing fair and competitive compensation for its employees. The pay range for this position is $50.35 per hour (USD), with specific compensation determined by the candidate's unique combination of skills and experience.
