Job Summary

As a Maintenance Worker with the Navy Exchange Service Command, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and housekeeping services to ensure the upkeep of our facilities. This includes but is not limited to, plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs, and painting. You will work independently to ensure all aspects of the facility are working correctly and take initiative to identify and resolve issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks in at least two of the following trades: plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting.
  • Maintain a work order log and follow up as required.
  • Report status to supervisor and log trouble calls with contractors as necessary.
  • Perform routine maintenance on washers and dryers, including cleaning lint ducts and vents, replacing hoses and fittings, and referring complex problems to supervisor.
  • Recognize and report electrical problems and make repairs as necessary.
  • Replace fluorescent and incandescent ballasts, bulbs, and tubes.
  • Measure, cut, and construct or repair wood or wood substitute items.
  • Conduct basic carpentry repairs, including repairing or replacing screens, window and door frames, molding, and trim.
  • Prepare areas and apply standard coating methods, including brushing, rolling, and spraying.
Requirements:
  • One year of experience in general maintenance practices, including the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, tools, mechanical and electrified equipment, commonly used chemicals, and basic safe work practices.
  • Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor, including standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
