Position: Animal Care Specialist

Overview:
This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and are committed to providing exceptional care for animals in a shelter environment. As an Animal Care Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals under our care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily feeding, watering, and thorough sanitation of living spaces for all animals.
  • Administer special diets and monitor the nutritional needs of the animals.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of animal and communal areas throughout the day.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the facility, including outdoor areas, and manage seasonal tasks.
  • Observe and report on the health and behavior of animals to identify any concerns promptly.
  • Assist in the movement and handling of animals within the shelter.
  • Support the training and orientation of new staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure humane treatment of all animals, demonstrating compassion and respect at all times.
  • Manage inventory and stock supplies as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, volunteers, and management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience in a kennel or shelter environment is preferred.
  • Experience with distressed animals is advantageous.
  • Willingness to complete required training within the initial onboarding period.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and humanely.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in environments with potential exposure to zoonotic diseases.
