Animal Welfare Attendant

Overview:
This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and are committed to providing exceptional care for animals in a shelter environment. As an Animal Care Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals under our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily feeding, watering, and thorough sanitation of living spaces for all animals.
- Administer special diets and monitor the nutritional needs of the animals.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of animal and communal areas throughout the day.
- Maintain cleanliness of the facility, including outdoor areas, and manage seasonal tasks.
- Observe and report on the health and behavior of animals to identify any concerns promptly.
- Assist in the movement and handling of animals within the shelter.
- Support the training and orientation of new staff and volunteers.
- Ensure humane treatment of all animals, demonstrating compassion and respect at all times.
- Manage inventory and stock supplies as necessary.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, volunteers, and management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience in a kennel or shelter environment is preferred.
- Experience with distressed animals is advantageous.
- Willingness to complete required training within the initial onboarding period.
- Ability to handle animals safely and humanely.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in environments with potential exposure to zoonotic diseases.
