Job Title: Biological Sciences Assistant

Indian River State College is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Biological Sciences Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our instructional support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our students in the biological sciences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the instructor of record with demonstration of laboratory techniques and the direction of students in the laboratory setting.
  • Support the instructor of record with assignments and the direction of students in the laboratory setting.
  • Proctor laboratory practicals and assessments, and assist with required documentation.
  • Demonstrate safety principles and complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Science discipline or field of study.
  • Proven laboratory skills and knowledge of contemporary discipline theory and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to guide students effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office software and IRSC's internet platform.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A minimum of two (2) or more years of documented professional lab experience directly related to the discipline.
Physical Requirements:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, and stoop. The ability to observe, respond promptly to situational needs, manipulate equipment, and evaluate procedural results is also required. Sufficient hearing to assess needs and communicate verbally with students and others, and sufficient verbal and written skills to communicate needs promptly and effectively in English are also necessary. The ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds and manual dexterity to operate standard office machines are also required.
