Humanities Professor

We are seeking a highly qualified Humanities Professor to join our team at San Diego Miramar College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory level Humanities courses, demonstrating versatility in instructional methodology and technology, and serving diverse student populations.
Key Responsibilities- Teach Humanities courses, including introductory level courses, and participate in program development and expansion of Humanities course offerings.
- Demonstrate expertise in instructional methodology and technology, and the ability to serve diverse student populations.
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning.
- Participate in curriculum development and program planning, and serve on and attend department, college, and district committees.
- Communicate with students and staff in a professional manner, and continuously work to find and close equity gaps and engage in equitable practices in the classroom and in the campus community.
- Master's in Humanities or the equivalent.
- Experience in teaching a variety of Humanities courses at the community college level.
- Current knowledge of the Humanities discipline, and adjacent fields of study, as well as emerging trends, research, and pedagogy.
- Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.
- Competence in new pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, online, HyFlex, or hybrid teaching, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity.
- Recent experience working with diverse student populations in the classroom, specifically underrepresented student populations and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
- Experience actively engaging in a college campus community.
- Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
- Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the classroom.
- Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and maintain professionalism and collegiality.
- Knowledge of and willingness to utilize Open Educational Resources to open access for students.
- Class 1, Step C - Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44 - $8,849.03) per month based on the 2024 AFT - College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule.
- Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.
