Carmen operates five distinct campuses, each functioning as an independent charter school authorized by Milwaukee Public Schools or UW-Milwaukee.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cultural Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in the daily operations of the school office, working under the guidance of the Operations Manager. This position is essential in ensuring the front office runs efficiently and creates a welcoming first impression of Carmen.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In-School Suspension (ISS) Oversight:

The Cultural Engagement Coordinator establishes and upholds a culture of high expectations within the ISS setting.

• Welcomes all students upon arrival and actively supervises their activities throughout their time in ISS.

• Ensures students are engaged in independent academic work during ISS (e.g., assignments on Google Classroom, independent reading, online learning platforms).

• Accurately records attendance for each student assigned to ISS using SchoolRunner.

• Communicates with families as necessary.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Supports overall school supervision in various areas, particularly during arrival, dismissal, transitions, and lunch periods.

• Arrives punctually to assigned duty locations and proactively engages with students.

• Contributes to the campus mission by providing classroom coverage during staff absences.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Cultural Engagement Coordinator position is based at the school on a daily basis. The office environment is fast-paced, often requiring prolonged periods of standing, mobility throughout the building, and the ability to lift and organize materials. Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary with prior notice.
