About the Role

The City of Glendale AZ is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to lead the Intelligent Transportation Systems and Network Management team. As a key member of the Transportation Department, you will be responsible for managing the Traffic Signal and ITS Divisions, developing and implementing traffic signal timing plans, and coordinating citywide traffic signal systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Management: Manage staff in the ITS and Traffic Signal Divisions, including assigning work, developing division programs, and conducting staff reviews.
  • Asset Management: Assist in the management of ITS and traffic signal assets, including tracking and maintenance.
  • Policy Development: Assist in developing and updating written policies and procedures for traffic signal and ITS related items.
  • Traffic Signal Timing: Develop and implement traffic signal timing plans, including coordination with other city departments and external agencies.
  • Event Management: Oversee TMC operations during large-scale special events, including scheduling staff and providing post-event reports.
  • Communication: Utilize dynamic message signs and other media to communicate traffic conditions to the public.
  • Infrastructure Management: Manage and propose recommendations for improvements to the city's ITS infrastructure, including fiber optic and wireless radio communication networks.
  • Leadership: Direct and manage the efforts of outside consultants and contractors, and participate in developing the annual ITS budget.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Five years of relevant work experience in traffic signal systems, including two years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Certifications: Valid Arizona driver's license and ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification.
