As a culinary specialist, your main responsibility will be to prepare menu items according to standardized recipes, under the guidance of more experienced kitchen staff. A successful candidate will show a willingness to learn and prioritize team success.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation

  • Prepare a variety of soups, stocks, and sauces with minimal oversight; capable of boiling, braising, and roasting items as per standardized recipes.
  • Effectively manage at least two cooking stations while maintaining cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Keep your workstation organized and clean while producing items with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with senior cooks or chefs to create new menu items based on suggestions.

Safety Standards

  • Address safety concerns with chefs and propose improvements for a safer kitchen environment.
  • Ensure your workstation is maintained in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Adhere to personal hygiene standards and comply with the department's dress code.

Learning and Growth

  • Contribute ideas to enhance culinary operations and share them appropriately.
  • Participate in pre-shift discussions and assist with strategies for effective shift execution.
  • Receive and incorporate feedback to enhance skills and performance.
  • Focus on the needs of the team in all actions.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the chef.
  • May assist with dishwashing duties when necessary.

Qualifications:

  1. Effective communication skills in English, including the ability to follow instructions and seek clarification. Basic arithmetic, measurement, and conversion skills are required.
  2. A minimum of three years of experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club, or similar establishment is preferred.
  3. Ability to plan and organize work, interpret instructions, recipes, specifications, and standards.
  4. Familiarity with kitchen equipment operations and maintenance, along with some knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Must be able to stand or walk for up to 8 hours daily, with frequent bending, stooping, and stretching. Moderate to heavy physical effort may be required occasionally. Manual dexterity for food preparation is essential. Ability to operate standard industrial kitchen appliances is necessary. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs independently. Exposure to extreme temperatures (freezers and stove-range burners) may occur for brief periods. May encounter industrial cleaning chemicals. Must have the ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively with others.
