Position Overview

The Chief Compliance Officer for Civil Rights and Title IX Oversight is responsible for ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations concerning civil rights, including Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, ADA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This role is pivotal in fostering a safe and equitable environment for all members of the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance Management (35%)

As the Title IX Officer, you will ensure that institutional policies regarding discrimination and harassment are in alignment with Title IX and other relevant laws. This includes:
  • Overseeing the handling of complaints and investigations related to discrimination and harassment.
  • Maintaining and updating institutional policies to reflect best practices.
  • Collaborating with various departments to ensure a cohesive approach to compliance.

Investigation Oversight (35%)

You will supervise the intake and investigation processes for allegations of discrimination and harassment. Responsibilities include:
  • Managing internal investigators and coordinating with external parties as necessary.
  • Determining the appropriateness of informal resolutions.
  • Ensuring that all investigations are conducted fairly and impartially.

Education and Outreach (10%)

Provide guidance and training to students, faculty, and staff regarding their rights and responsibilities under the institution's policies. This includes:
  • Leading educational initiatives to promote awareness of discrimination and harassment issues.
  • Coordinating training sessions on compliance and reporting procedures.

Leadership and Management (10%)

Develop a strategic vision for the Office of Civil Rights Compliance, including:
  • Managing staff and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Setting goals and objectives to enhance the effectiveness of the office.

Assessment and Reporting (5%)

Conduct regular reviews of compliance practices and reporting mechanisms to identify areas for improvement. Responsibilities include:
  • Analyzing data related to discrimination and harassment incidents.
  • Collaborating with institutional research to assess campus climate.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a comprehensive understanding of relevant laws and best practices related to civil rights compliance. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to navigate complex issues with professionalism and integrity. A Bachelor's degree is required, with an advanced degree preferred. Significant experience in Title IX or related fields is necessary for success in this role.
